I had a great time at the annual Earth First!
Round River Rendezvous, which was held this year in Southern Oregon. It is a great opportunity for activist from all over the country and share information and have some fun too. There were two actions after the Rondy. One at a Home Depot, was to protest there involvement in a destructive project in Patagonia. The other action was a free state in the Elliott State Forest. A free state is a tactic that involves blocking a road, which in this case kept loggers out of an active logging plan for a few days. Twenty-seven activists ended up being arrested after a massive show of force by the Oregon State Police. The blockade consisted of a bipod, skypod, gate lockdown, barrel lockdown, and an overturned cargo van. The action was planned by
Earth First! and
Cascadia Rising Tide. More actions are likely as Cascadia Summer 2009 continues.
