The Mobilization for Climate Justice West (a coalition of over a dozen groups) are calling for a rally and mass civil disobedience in at the Chevron refinery in Richmond, California on August 15.

Rendezvous and Free State in Oregon

I had a great time at the annual Earth First! Round River Rendezvous, which was held this year in Southern Oregon. It is a great opportunity for activist from all over the country and share information and have some fun too. There were two actions after the Rondy. One at a Home Depot, was to protest there involvement in a destructive project in Patagonia. The other action was a free state in the Elliott State Forest. A free state is a tactic that involves blocking a road, which in this case kept loggers out of an active logging plan for a few days. Twenty-seven activists ended up being arrested after a massive show of force by the Oregon State Police. The blockade consisted of a bipod, skypod, gate lockdown, barrel lockdown, and an overturned cargo van. The action was planned by Earth First! and Cascadia Rising Tide. More actions are likely as Cascadia Summer 2009 continues.

Dominic von Zabern Goes on Trial

Dominic von Zabern Goes on Trial tomorrow in Eureka for his role in photographing a homeless rights protest in Arcata, Ca. A story about the case in this morning's Times-Standard generated the most views on the newspaper's website. This video footage that was taken by the Humboldt District Attorney's office shows several of the many arrests at that 2007 demonstration.

Kinetic Sculptures Begin 3 Day Race

It was cool and overcast in Arcata for this morning's start of Humboldt's annual Kinetic Sculpture Race.

Humboldt 420 Festival 2009

Here is a video that I took Monday at the Arcata 420 Festival. Thousands gathered for the annual event that is one of the largest celebrations of marijuana culture in the world. Arcata is in Humboldt County, which is part of Northern California's Emerald Triangle.
